I wanted to share a poem that I had written as I was going through the process of healing from my own sexual abuse. I hope that those of you who read it can resonate with the harmful effects of abuse.
You came into my life and stole my soul
So innocent and young no longer whole
You took that all away
on that warm summer day
No concern what it would do
To the young innocent girl everyone knew
At that moment I died inside
You never even heard the cries
I was empty and scared
And you no longer cared
You took what you wanted and left a shell
Leaving me trapped in living hell
Keeping the secret for so many years
Hiding myself from all the tears
You came into my life and stole my soul
So innocent and young no longer whole
If you or someone you love has been effected by abuse please give yourself or your loved one the gift of understanding. This is not something that gets healed overnight. It takes time and a lot of patients with oneself to undo the damaging effects that sexual abuse creates.
